She Said YES! đź’Ť A Picture-Perfect Surprise Proposal + 5 Tips to Pull It Off Flawlessly

There’s something truly magical about capturing a moment that changes two lives forever—and this one was unforgettable. I had the absolute joy of photographing and helping plan this gorgeous surprise proposal at Fia restaurant in Santa Monica, the look on her face said it all. ✨

From choosing the location to timing the perfect light, everything came together in the most heartfelt, cinematic way. Here are a few photos from this special day—and if you’re planning to pop the question soon, keep reading for my top tips on how to plan a successful surprise proposal.

💡 5 Tips to Pull Off a Surprise Proposal She’ll Never Forget

1. Choose a location with personal meaning—or beautiful light.
Whether it’s your first date spot, a beach at sunset, or a blooming garden, the best setting is one that feels like you. Bonus points if it has a stunning backdrop for photos!

2. Time it right.
Golden hour (that soft light right before sunset) is always a win for photos. I can help coordinate the timing so the light, crowd, and mood are just right.

3. Hire a photographer in advance—discreetly!
As a proposal photographer, I know how to blend in, scout the best angles beforehand, and capture that exact moment without giving it away. The emotion in those first few seconds? Priceless.

4. Have a signal and stick to the plan.
We’ll plan a cue (like tying your shoe or taking a selfie) so I know exactly when it’s happening. No awkwardness, no missed shot—just magic.

5. Make it personal.
Write a note, say something meaningful before kneeling, or bring in family to celebrate after. These small touches make the proposal feel thoughtful and unforgettable.

Every couple’s story is unique—and documenting this milestone is such a gift. If you're ready to plan your surprise proposal (or help a friend do the same), I’d love to chat and help bring the vision to life.
